The Master in Urban Planning and Sustainability of UPC School, is a program designed to train highly specialized professionals in sustainable territorial and urban planning.
The master’s degree provides students with innovative tools to make urban planning compatible with environmental preservation, preparing them to design cities and territories that balance growth with environmental sustainability.
This program responds to the contemporary need to offer viable proposals for sustainable development without renouncing city-making.
The way an urban project is designed, how it integrates within the territory and how it affects the environmental quality of the surroundings are fundamental concepts of sustainable urban architecture and planning. Land regulation plays a fundamental role in the path towards a more sustainable future, established by both national and European public policy strategies. Those years when cities grew in a disorderly and chaotic manner, ignoring the limited capacity of the territory to absorb inhabitants and provide them with necessary resources, have long passed.
Currently, public administrations ensure the supply of basic resources and have designed projects to build sustainable cities. Among these instruments we find Local Agenda 21s, transversal policies that integrate mobility, landscape, waste management and urban structure. The master’s offers the most innovative tools to integrate environmental preservation into contemporary urban and territorial systems, enabling professionals to lead the transformation towards more resilient, equitable and environmentally responsible cities.
