Description
The Master’s in Pediatric Optometry of UPC School, is a program designed to train highly specialized professionals capable of preventing, detecting, treating and appropriately referring pediatric patients who require it.
The master’s degree provides students with high-quality training in the latest technologies and techniques in pediatric optometry, essential competencies to ensure good visual health from childhood.
This program responds to the vital importance of pediatric optometry, considering that 80% of the information we receive is through our eyes and that the visual system begins its development from birth, reaching its maturity around age 12. Correct visual development in childhood will allow a person to enjoy throughout their life a complete visual system, good visual acuity and good motor skills, without limitations in performing daily activities or in choosing a job.
Despite being a key specialization, the number of optometrists dedicated to pediatrics is limited. The master’s will provide specialized training in the detection, monitoring and treatment of multiple ocular dysfunctions and pathologies in childhood. The teaching team is composed of the best professionals from Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, experienced professors from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and professionals from Ocularis, the NGO specialized in optometric and ophthalmological training in developing countries.
